I was truly hoping that I could write about something new in this edition, but it appears that for the last few years there is a constant theme. It’s the economy stupid! So it appears that once again I will have to stick with the basic underlying theme.

Things are challenging in today’s economy to say the least, and it has been going on for over three years now and it is understandable why people are getting impatient. In years past the US has hit recessions and economic slowdowns, but has always bounced back, pulling out of it and coming out stronger and for the better.

Last night I was looking forward to watching the US Hockey team take on legendary Team Canada in the Winter Olympics and as I turned on NBC I see a couple dressed like they belong in the Nutcracker Sweet dancing around on the ice?

“Did I miss the first period and this was entertainment for the intermission?” But then another couple came on the ice and they look like they just left Studio 54 in New York circa 1978. “Where was the game? This is USA v. Canada in hockey; the biggest game since the 1980 Miracle on Ice.

After scrambling through the channels I found the game on MSNBC, a second rate news station. For the record it was one of the most exciting, intense, and action thrilled sporting events I had ever seen. Even bigger than my 5th grade basketball championship game when we, Nallwood, beat Indian Creek to take the title in Overland Park, Kansas in 1976!

So here in America,Ice dancing is bigger than one of the most anticipated matches in years. We have become a nation obsessed with reality TV and sunk so low. We care more about if Donnie and Marie Osmond can dance rather than two countries battling it out on ice. This was a slow creep on American starting with The Bachelor/Bachelorette and topping off this past year with Jersey Shore. What next, the Olympics will be hosted by Mike “The Situation” from Jersey Shore?

That makes 45 years in a row that I did not watch them and I am going for 30 years in a row for The Academy Awards! Who cares, really? The one good thing from what I hear last night was that Ricky Gervais from the British and original version of The Office hosted the event and took a swipe at everything Hollywood…classic. What we did learn from the enlightened “beautiful people” is that James Cameron, director of such blockbusters as Titanic, and Avatar, believes in echoterrorism; OK James the next attack will occur on your $20mil mansion, you know, just to set a good example.

Actor Danny Glover believes that the Haiti earthquake disaster is a result of the environmental summit in Copenhagen going bad last month. I think Glover should be asked to clarify if this was an act of Zeus, Apollo, Hermes, or one of the many gods that control the earth.

It is not so much that image is everything, but reality and perception count. Yes I work in an industry where the image is tattered, but for 15 years Perl Mortgage has been going strong providing quality loans for people who deserve them…reality. No hype, just results.

Now that the new year is here it is time to set goals on moving forward.

Now that the new year is here it is time to set goals on moving forward. I have put a lot of thought into this and have come up with the following:

Fix the world wide global economic crisis

Lose 15 lbs.

Try and dunk a basketball( I have not been able to do this for seven years.)

Leave the mortgage business and hope that my internet movies get discovered and I become famous

I know, I know, a lot of you must be saying that Dean, you are setting your sights too high, you can never achieve all this. However, I always believe that will power and determination can over came anything and losing those 15lbs will eventually come to me this year.

Oh, the other stuff? No problem:

Cut taxes so we can keep all of our money

I didn’t specify what type of basketball and rim. I can use my son’s Michael and Kosta’s nerf basketball set for that

Look for the next few installments of the Danderson/Vlamis videos coming soon! Hollywood…I’m on my way!
